With summer on its way out....

It's been a while since I laid down the last blog, but since school is on the brink of a new year, I decided that I may want to get into the habit of my weekly blog. This summer has been very helpful in the sense that I have become more "into" what I want to do in my career. I've never been more focused about what I want to do, and determined to do it. Some say that if you dream too big, you become disappointed with what actually happens. I see my dreams of being on ESPN as very much in reach, and intend on achieving them. It's hard to understand sometimes the way things workout from day to day, but as you'll see in this blog, everything is meant to be, and will be in the end, so you have to just take it and roll. For example, this summer I interned at WYTV, where I was the lone sports intern so I had plenty of opportunities to learn the Youngstown business inside and out. My first day on the job I had the chance to go out with Bill Castrovince to do an interview with Cowboy rookie, and former Buckeye standout Bobby Carpenter. I asked alot of questions on the ride back to the station as to how he sets up his questions and such. I worked with Bill alot throughout this summer and learned alot about the business and life in general.

With every sidekick comes the superhero, and this summer I met Bob Hannon, who really took me under his wing and showed me how the business is from a small market standpoint. He guided me many times, but also let me fly on my own just to see where I'd fair with his wrath if I had failed. I wish to say that I didn't fail once, but I'd be lying. Even though throughout the entire process I was told that I'm one of the better interns that they'd ever had. That meant alot to me especially because I had foreseen myself being behind the curve in the business, I am actually ahead. However, the trick is to pick up as much as you can in the short amount of time that you have, so I took notes for 3 months about things I could take from Youngstown and improve on in my very own sportscasts. I've got well over 50, but I'll send out 4 for you that may strike you as well.
-Always put yourself in the viewers shoes, would you want to hear that story? Or is it just filler garbage?
- Help out in the community, be seen in the community for your standups.
-Don't burn bridges, contacts are very important, you never know when you might need somebody.
-Working alot is not the same as working hard, yet working hard is not the same as working well, working alot means you're there, working hard means you want to be there, and working well means you're going to stay there.
